In April 2023, Oxalis became a co-owner of the Tea Studio tea factory in southern India, making us one of the few European companies that produces tea directly in the growing country. Tea Studio is an innovative tea project that processes teas in an artisanal way. It was established in 2018 in the Nilgiri Mountains at an altitude of 1850 meters. It is located in the middle of an area planted exclusively with large-leaf tea trees of the Thea sinensis Assamica cultivar with a total area of 24 hectares, which is very fragmented in terms of ownership.

The tea bushes are cared for here by small farmers from the Bagda tribal community, whose small gardens only cover 0.1 to 0.2 hectares. The hand harvesting is done in a noble manner, only the bud and one leaf below it are collected. The growers never use any chemicals, if only because they simply do not have the means to buy them. The tea production is therefore absolutely clean. Since its inception, the emphasis has been on social responsibility and minimizing negative impacts on the environment. It uses LPG liquefied gas energy and electricity production comes from its own solar power plant.


Tea Studio specializes exclusively in orthodox teas. It produces 16 different varieties under one roof. Oxalis has already included five of these teas in its range under the Oxalis Tea Factory label. Among them is the popular fresh harvest Nilgiri Winter Frost, which it has been importing for many years. In addition, it also offers Orchid black tea, Peony white tea, Maofeng green tea and dark roasted Wulong tea.
