Description
This exceptional tea comes from the tea gardens of the village of Nagomari in Georgia's Guria region, where the mountain climate, abundant rainfall, and fresh air create ideal conditions for the slow growth of tea bushes. Harvesting the tea leaves is closely linked to local tradition: the leaves are hand-picked during the full moon. According to the growers, the leaves contain more moisture at this time. They are also harvested during the new moon, when moisture is concentrated in the upper layers of the soil, promoting the healthy growth of the tea bushes. The plants are cultivated without synthetic pesticides or industrial fertilizers, allowing the natural character of the local terroir to shine through. Careful hand-picking and gentle processing result in a tea with a delicate, harmonious character and a rich spectrum of flavours.Although it is classified as black tea in Europe, in Georgia and many other East Asian countries fully oxidized teas are traditionally referred to as Red Tea. The name is derived from the amber to reddish colour of the brewed infusion rather than the appearance of the dry leaves. The elegant, tightly rolled black leaves produce an orange-brown infusion. The aroma and flavour are dominated by roasted chestnuts, complemented by notes of grapefruit and aged wood.
Preparation
Use 12 g of tea (approx. 6 heaped tsp) per 1 l of freshly boiled water. Allow to infuse for 4 minutes. Then strain. Suitable for 1-2 infusions.
