Costa Rica SHB EP Hacienda Sonora, 150 g

This specialty coffee from Hacienda Sonora, a farm in Costa Rica, delights with the sweetness of caramel, fresh grapefruit notes, and a hint of roasted barley. It has a light body and pleasantly vibrant acidity that brings juiciness to the cup and highlights its complex flavor profile. Thanks to its lightness and refreshing character, it is ideal for filter coffee brewing.Hacienda Sonora is a family-owned farm located in Costa Rica’s Central Valley region, near the Poás Volcano, and has belonged to the Guardia family for over a century. In 1999, Alberto Guardia began experimenting with honey and natural processing methods. Today, he runs the farm together with his son Diego, growing more than 20 coffee varieties across 80 hectares. Another 20 hectares are dedicated to a protected forest reserve. Our Cascara Costa Rica Alajuela Natural – dried coffee cherry husks – also comes from the same farm.The SHB (Strictly Hard Bean) designation refers to dense coffee beans grown at higher altitudes, while EP (European Preparation) indicates careful sorting with a focus on removing defects. Typica is one of the oldest Arabica varieties, prized for its delicacy, complexity, and elegant flavor profile.The coffee cherries are hand-picked and processed using the natural method. First, the whole cherries, including their pulp, are dried on black tarps for 12 days. This is followed by gentle drying at temperatures below 35 °C and a two-month resting period, during which their moisture content stabilizes. Finally, the dried outer layers are removed, and the beans are carefully sorted.

Select the correct grind of coffee corresponding to the method for preparing your favourite type. For 100 ml of water allow 7 g of ground coffee. Use hot water of 93-94°C.
