India Darjeeling Puttabong FTGFOP1 First Flush, 60 g

This premium tea comes from the renowned Puttabong Tea Estate, one of the most important and historically oldest tea gardens in the Darjeeling region. Established in 1852 by Dr. Archibald Campbell, it is regarded as the very first commercial tea estate in Darjeeling. The garden stretches across the steep Himalayan slopes at elevations ranging from approximately 500 to over 2,000 metres, where a unique microclimate, mountain mists, and cool nights create ideal conditions for producing teas of exceptional elegance and complexity.The name Puttabong originates from the Lepcha language and means "the house of green leaves." The estate is renowned worldwide for its First Flush teas, the first spring harvests that are among the most eagerly anticipated teas of every season. The grade FTGFOP1 (Finest Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe 1) denotes a premium whole-leaf tea containing a high proportion of tender buds harvested exclusively during the first spring picking.The first harvest takes place after the tea bushes emerge from their winter dormancy, producing the youngest and most delicate leaves. These are processed using the traditional orthodox method, preserving their natural character, freshness, and rich aroma. Coarse, dark green leaves produce a pale yellow infusion. Both the aroma and flavour are pleasantly sweet, revealing notes of young nettle complemented by hints of green pear.

Use 12 g of tea (approx. 6 heaped tsp) per 1 l of water. Bring the water to the boil, then leave to cool to 85°C. Infuse for 3 minutes. Then strain. Suitable for 1-2 infusions.
